Camp Hero State Park

Montauk's newest State Park opened in September 2002. This 415-acre spot formerly housed US Army and US Air Force bases. Several buildings, bunkers, batteries, and an old radar building (a National Historic Site) remain, although they are closed to the public. Roads cross the park, along with an extensive system of trails for hiking, bicycling, and horseback riding. The park features a beach suitable for surfcasting, a picnic area, and magnificent maritime forests.

Two miles east of the village, on the ocean. This lovely ocean beach has spectacular cliffs rising at its western end at Rinestein Park. Come here to surf or watch the surfers. Parking by permit only.

Fort Pond

Montauk’s newest town beach. Located right on beautiful Fort Pond Bay, this beach has no facilities or lifeguard. A favorite beach to launch ocean kayaks and other small boats. Parking by permit only.

Gin Beach

At the end of East Lake Drive on Block Island Sound, great for families with children. The waters are gentle, and the beach sandy. You can watch the boats come in and out of Montauk Harbor, or take a walk on the jetty. Parking by permit only.

Hither Hills State Park

Four miles west of the town on the ocean has lifeguards on duty May 25 thru September 8. Pay an $8 parking fee for non-campers. Hither Hills facilities include a playground, picnic tables, outdoor showers, restrooms, a changing area, and a general store. The Park is closed during the winter.

Nick's Beach

Located right in the heart of the Village at the end of South Edison Street, and named after Nick's Restaurant fronting the beach, this popular beach now has a lifeguard on duty during the summer months. No public parking or restrooms, but many restaurants and stores nearby.

Shadmoor State Park

Two and one half miles east of the village on the Montauk Highway, this 99-acre, pristine tract of land has a half mile of ocean frontage. Tall clay cliffs plunge down to a pebble-strewn beach. From the bluffs the rugged Atlantic Ocean stretches as far as the horizon, with lines of waves unfolding and rolling to the shore

Theodore Roosevelt County Park

Three miles east of the village, on Montauk Highway. A total of 1,126 acres features three and a half miles of nature trails suitable for hiking, 5 miles of bridle paths, Third House Museum, a picnic area, fresh-water fishing, and surfcasting. Camping is permitted for up to three days on the outer beach for 4 wheel drive vehicles that are self-contained
